The film documents the history of a black African royal family in Cameroon from the times of German colonization until the present day. In 1884, when Europe split up Africa , the German Reichs Commissioner and the high chief of the Duala-kingdom agreed to a treaty of protection. King Bell's grandson, Rudolf Manga Bell, went to Germany to study and he was trained to think in "the German way'. Nonetheless, later on his throne in Duala he was hanged by his beloved German teachers for disobedience against the "Kaiser'. Rudolf Manga Bell is now posthumously celebrated as a National Hero of independent Cameroon.
