The traditional theater in Mali, the Koteba theater, has always been a source of information. During colonial times this type of theater was banned and later, under dictatorship, the situation was not much different. Today, after the first free democratic elections, the Koteba is used to disseminate information on new laws, rules, and types of behavior in an amusing manner. The film observes the small ensemble of the “Theater Dô“ in a village on the banks of the river Niger during rehearsals and performances, which are intended to inform the population of their democratic rights and duties before the upcoming regional elections.
